So-silly moral question

Why is it so bad to, say, spit on a car, and yet perfectly fine to belch exhaust into other people's lungs?

Exhaust is invisible
Damage caused by exhaust is not well understood
Long historical stigma associated with spitting
Cars are believed to be key to economic progress
The love affair with cars e.g. status symbol and key to comfort
Complaining about exhaust is too soft
Cars are necessary but spitting is not

Why do other people's health take such a low priority.
Why is the morality of the masses so impoverished.
